Main Topics of Things To Do in Capri for a Day
One of the possible answers could be that Capri makes a very easy day trip from Naples or from the Amalfi Coast.
When I took this scenic Northern Italy itinerary, I had no idea how much I was going to enjoy Capri and Naples.
How To Go to Capri for One Day from Naples
There are several options to choose from. Here they are, with all information you need to plan your day trip to Capri like a pro.
On a Guided Tour
Joining an organized tour is the easiest way to visit Capri from Naples.
Check out this full-day tour of Capri from Naples that includes visits to Monte Solaro, Anacapri, Villa San Michele, and Blue Grotto.
By clicking on the previous link you can see all details such as transportation around the island, services, and timings.
By Direct Ferry
If you want to do your own thing, just head over to the Port of Naples, check out the ferries schedule, buy your tickets and enjoy.
If you buy return ferry tickets, beware that you won’t be able to use them to board other companies’ boats.
The ferry ride takes between 50 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on the type of boat you choose.
Hydrofoils are the fastest. Slow ferries are the nicest.
Whatever you choose, let’s see what are the best things to do in Capri in a day.
Your One-day Capri Bucket List
During my Naples holiday, I spent one day in Capri.
Wherever you look, the scenery is so beautiful that you feel as if you were in one of those Italian movies. The hundreds of white boats sailing on the deep blue sea, the sky, the clouds, and the rocky shores provide an awesome backdrop for your photos.
Expect to take lots of photos. I surely did.
Boat Trip around Capri with Grottos & Faraglioni Rocks
If there’s anything I regret not doing on Capri is this boat trip around the island.
Later on that day, while enjoying the top of Monte Solaro, I saw boats roaming around the Faraglioni Rocks. It was already late for me to catch one.
Don’t make the same mistake! Click here to check out a two-hour boat tour of Capri that includes the grottoes, the natural arch, and Marina Piccola, the most exclusive bay on the island of Capri. This tour includes snacks, bottled water and limoncello tasting.
Such boat tours include the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzura), but only on good weather. Just keep this in mind when you book your date.
Taxi Ride to Anacapri
The island has two towns, Capri and Anacapri. You want to visit both.
There are three ways to go to Anacapri from Capri: by funicular, by taxi, and by bus.
Winding along the coast, the road from Capri to Anacapri is spectacular.
The taxi fare is about 25 Euro. You’d be riding in a blue or pink convertible, you’d feel the wind running through your hair, you’d film your experience and you’d enjoy it big time.
I took the taxi and I loved every single moment of this 10-minutes ride.
If you suffer from motion sickness, though, you’d better ride the funicular to Anacapri.
Visit Villa San Michele in Anacapri
Axel Munthe’s “The Story of San Michele” documents the creation of this villa.
The visit requires about one hour.
The admission tickets cost 10 Euro. Discounts for children and students are available.
There’s a very nice restaurant just near the villa, with good food and a beautiful garden. We had lunch there.
Take the Chairlift to Monte Solaro
The chairlift ride takes 10-15 minutes. The return ticket costs 14 Euro.
The one-way ticket costs 11 Euro. You can descend on foot, but expect to walk for about one hour.
Should I visit Capri again, I’d walk this route both ways.
You’ll need between one and two hours for this activity.
From the top of Monte Solaro you’ll see the Faraglioni Rocks among other things. The panorama is impressive.
Expect to spend a long while enjoying the views and taking photos.
Relax on La Piazetta in Capri
La Piazetta is the place to be if you want to enjoy a coffee or two while people-watching.
You may be able to spot celebrities among all of these people.
Visit Villa Jovis
Villa Jovis is Emperor Tiberius’s ancient Roman palace.
Located about 2km from the center of the town of Capri, this archaeological site is a bit too challenging for people with walking problems.
Depending on the month, Villa Jovis is open from 10 am to 4 pm, 6 pm or 7pm.
I visited Capri in May. I missed Villa Jovis, because it was open until 6 pm only, with the last admission by 5:15.
That’s one reason to go back there some day.
Walk the Via Krupp
The road that connects Marina Piccola to the town of Capri is well-worth seeing, thanks to the wonderful coastal views.
Shop, Shop, and Shop Again
I’m not a shopping fan. Besides, I usually travel light, so there’s no room for additional stuff in my backpack.
Yet, in Capri I bought a lemon pattern dress right off the bat. I put it on about two minutes after purchasing it and wore it all day.
Have an Expensive Cocktail in the Marina
The 28 Euro cocktail came with a lesson: always check the price list before you order.
Nevertheless, we surely had fun while waiting for our ferry to return to Naples.
