The best walking shoes for travel should be both classy and comfortable.
You want to be able to walk for many hours in a row without feeling the tiredness and without getting the dreaded blisters that can ruin your trip. At the same time, the best walking shoes for travel should look classy and cool.
When your footwear is both comfortable and cute, you don’t need to pack lots of pairs of shoes for different occasions. You can simply wear your best walking sandals for travel or your hiking shoes with a cute dress and you’re ready to go out to a pool party or to any other type of event.
Also, you need to ensure your shoes are “instagrammable” to wear them when taking photos. If you travel with your partner, check out these captions for traveling couples and choose some to pair with your photos.
This article is my shopping list of the best walking shoes for travel. I like to take long walks wherever I go, so I choose footwear that enables me to take 30,000 steps a day without feeling the tiredness. At the same time, most of the cheap Europe city breaks involve flying low cost, so my travel shoes have to be light. These are my favorite comfortable sandals for walking in Europe (I’m a fan of Merrell footwear for some good reasons).
My advice is that you always wear your biggest pair of shoes and pack the other ones for the flight. This should save you some space in your bag for other items.
Main Topics of Best Walking Shoes for Travel
What Are the Best Walking Shoes to Pack for Travel?
During summer, you can be fine with a pair of flats and a pair of cute walking sandals. For fall and winter, you’ll need to pack some sneakers or even some boots, as the weather can get pretty rough. On top of all these, you’ll need a pair of flip-flops and perhaps some cute dress shoes to go with your best party outfits.
What Are The Best Walking Sandals for Women Who Travel?
Walking or hiking sandals are ideal for women who like to be active in their travels. If you aren’t the all-inclusive, do nothing all day type of girl, chances are you’re going to need some solid shoes to enable you to walk for a very long time. If you also enjoy allowing your toes to breathe freely, you should consider buying a comfy and cute pair of walking sandals. I love this style of footwear, my favorite brands being Merrell, Salomon, The North Face and Columbia. Here are a few models of walking sandals for women you might like.
Earth Origins Women’s Sophie Walking Sandals
The rubber sole of these sandals offers a good grip. One of the best things about these walking sandals is that they have Velcro on both sides of the back strap. If needed, you can remove this strap and turn them into slide sandals. Unfortunately, in case you have to tighten the back strap too much, the sides of the Velcro strap will look like tiny winds on the sides of your feet.
The Earth Origins Women’s Sophie sandals come in several color choices: Navy Blue, Sedona Brown, Moroccan Blue, Scarlet, Black, Frost Grey and Platinum.
You can buy these sandals on Amazon as of [todaysdate], here.
Teva Women’s Vera Walking Sandals
This water-ready sandal has two hook-and-loop features that allow you to adjust it to fit your feet. I find the heel pull-on loop funny, but some think it’s useful. I like the shock-absorbing sole and the arch support.
The outsole is made from rubber, so it has good anti-slipping properties. However, this wouldn’t be my first hiking sandal option, because I’d rather have my toes protected, particularly on rocky ground. I’d wear this Teva sandal model during city breaks and beach vacations. You can see all the available colors and buy this sandal here today, [todaysdate].
Clarks Women’s Arla Primrose Walking Sandal
If you prefer a more elegant and feminine style of walking sandal, you may want to take a closer look at the Arla Primrose walking sandal from Clarks. The 1-inch platform and the 1.57 inches heel height will help you look taller without compromising on your comfort. Made from textile and featuring the advanced cushion sole technology, Arla Primrose is perhaps the best walking sandal that combines comfort and looks. It also suits jobs that call for many hours of standing. You can buy this sandal here. Before you order your pair, make sure you read the reviews, in order to understand whether you should get it in medium or wide.
What Are Some Women’s Waterproof Walking Shoes Brands?
The best walking shoes for travel need to be waterproof. It happened to me so many times to be caught by some heavy rain coming out of the blue. Funny enough, I’ve got this experience in Morocco, earlier this year. After ruining my beautiful shoes, I had to buy a pair of sneakers and an umbrella. My waterproof shoes were safe at home. I learned the hard way that I should have packed them for this trip.
Clorts Women’s Outdoor Hiking Athletic Sports Lightweight Amphibious Sandal SD202
These closed-toe sandals will surely keep your feet protected even when walking on rugged terrain. This rubber toe cap makes them perfect for lots of purposes such as walking, hiking, trekking or backpacking.
The sandals are easy to put on and take off, thanks to the Velcro strap. The inner lining is soft and comfortable. The air vents will keep your feet ventilated at all times.
These sandals are washable and water-resistant, so you can even cross mountain creeks without having to go barefoot. Compact and lightweight, the Clorts Amphibious sandals can be the best walking shoes for travel. The brand name is a combination of the words “climbing” and “sports” and it speaks volumes about the qualities of this footwear.

Viakix Water Shoes for WomenÂ
These aren’t your average water shoes. Unlike most common water shoes models, these ones are suitable also for walking. The quick dry mesh will keep your feet protected against irritation. I would wear these shoes when walking through canyons like the Saklikent Gorge in Turkey. I wore regular water shoes when I did that, and I had many moments when I felt the sharp rocks under my soles. Besides, I had to change my shoes once the water trekking was over, as they didn’t dry as fast as these modern mesh ones.
You can find these shoes on Amazon, here.
Dreamcity Women’s Water Shoes Athletic Sport Lightweight Walking Shoes
The Dreamcity are among the best water shoes that are also suitable for walking. Although I wouldn’t wear them during very long walks in the city, I think they are ideal for mountain trekking. You won’t have to worry about having to cross creeks or rivers, as these shoes will dry very fast once you walk out of the water. The water grip outsole provides a very good grip in wet and slippery conditions. I’d wear these shoes during my outdoor photography trips, when I have to stand on rocks to take long exposure photos of waterfalls. Long exposure photography requires a tripod, and the best station points are usually in the middle of the running waters. Try that barefoot and you’ll see what I mean.

What Are the Best Shoes for Walking All Day?
When you are on a city break, chances are you’re going to walk all day long, from dawn till dusk. That’s what I do every time I only have two or three days to explore a city. The best shoes for long city walks need to be both classy and comfortable. Furthermore, they have to be lightweight (flying low cost becomes a pain when it comes to packing shoes).
Skechers Performance Women’s Go Walk 4 Lace-up Walking Shoe
Skechers is one of my favorite shoe brands. They are comfortable and extremely durable. I still have my pair of Sketchers I bought 15 years ago. They look worn out, but they are still my best shoes for summer hiking and for walking long distances.
Back in the time when I bought those shoes, mesh fabric was not so popular. Since this material has lots of advantages when it comes to summer walking shoes, I feel it’s time for an upgrade of my Sketchers. I like the Go Walk 4 lace-up shoe with its candy-like look and its comfortable sole. If you’re thinking to buy these shoes, beware of the fact that the laces are fixed, so you can’t actually tie them. The proper name of these walking shoes should have been slip-on rather thane lace-up. This isn’t a big deal to me, as I hate having to tie my laces. Nonetheless, if you are a wide fit, you may not be too happy with not being able to adjust the width of the shoe.
If you are fine with the fixed laces, you’re going to have a reliable friend in this shoe, a travel and walking partner to stand by you during your city breaks and long outdoor walks. Washing these shoes is a breeze, as you only need to throw them in the machine and dry them in some towels afterwards. You can read user reviews or buy these walking shoes here.
ONEMIX Women’s Air Cushion Running Shoes Lightweight Walking Sneakers
Although I believe that flat shoes are the best for walking, I have to say that air cushion soles have always impressed me as being very comfortable. I prefer minimalist or low drop walking shoes and sandals (as I know they are the healthiest choice), but every now and then I am tempted to change. Besides, who could resist the lovely colors and patterns of these Onemix Air Cushion lightweight walking sneakers? They are surely some cute walking shoes for women of all ages! The soft insoles and the 360 air cushion sole make this shoe the ideal choice for city travelers and even for some hikers.
When it comes to hiking though, I prefer high rise shoes, as they offer better ankle support. Regular shoes or sneakers are great for walking, but when it comes to going downhill, my feet tend to slip inside the shoes, and I end up with blue toenails.

Skechers Performance Women’s Go Step Challenge Walking Shoe
Maintaining a feminine and delicate look while traveling is hard work. Sneakers aren’t always stylish enough to suit all situations. This is why you may have to choose another type of shoe. These ballet flats, for instance, can make the best walking shoes, as they offer both comfort and style. According to most users, these walking shoes fit just right. However, if you want to user orthotic inserts, you’ll need to go up one size.
Thanks to their stylish look, the Sketchers Performance Go Step Challenge may be the best shoes for traveling to Europe. You’ll look good on Instagram, you’ll feel comfortable, and you won’t have to worry about bringing any dress shoes with you.
