Do you play golf? Do you want to learn how to play it? This is a spot in Romania you may like: Lac de Verde.
Lac de Verde is a golf club located in Breaza, less than 100 km from Bucharest. It is also very close to Sinaia, so if you decide to stay here, go to see Peles Castle in Sinaia, because it’s only 20 minutes away. If you fancy the idea of being close to the mountains but you want a more quite location, you can choose Cornu, one of the neighboring villages in Prahove County. Get accommodation at Bali Spa Cornu, a four-star hotel with medical spa.
I’ve stayed in Lac de Verde a while ago, not for playing golf, but for a long weekend getaway with a group of friends. I don’t play golf, so I can’t give you too many details except that the course features nine greens (32-par) and it is designed according to the highest PGA standards.
If you want, you can take golf lessons at Lac de Verde. You don’t need a membership or a subscription for that. You can just book one hour and see if you like it. Then you can return another time for the serious stuff.
What I liked most about Lac de Verde was the relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. It seems golf players value their silence, as there were hardly any noises other than the chirping of the birds and the purring of the golf carts. There was a golf tournament ongoing while we were there, so there were quite a lot of people. Yet, you couldn’t hear a thing, they were doing their thing quietly.
It feels funny to be in a golf resort and not play golf. For instance, we were not allowed to walk on the golf field. If we wanted to go to the restaurant, we needed to call the reception to send us golf carts to bring us there. For those of us who couldn’t be bothered, room service was available for free (well, accommodation in Lac de Verde is not cheap anyway). So we had the meals served in our rooms.
As the spa center was in our building and it was included in the accommodation price, we used it quite a lot. The other guests didn’t seem to bother, they were probably focused on their golf tournament.
My conclusion about Lac de Verde is this: if you play golf, you’ll have a great time. If you go with a group of friends, with the only purpose to relax and have fun together, you’ll have a great time. If you want to explore, to meet people, to experience the local spirit and culture, don’t choose it. You’ll only spend your money to get bored. If you also have a travel blog, you may want to write about this golf resort, as it is one of the few of this kind in Romania.
Later update: I just saw a documentary about golf resorts in Romania. There were some players who said the golf course in Breaza is in a very bad condition. My stay there was several years ago, therefore you might want to check with people who were there more recently before booking your stay in Lac de Verde.
